Mid 1800's silk tie quilt 55x62
$499.99
Mid 1800's Hexagonal Silk Tie Quilt. This item is dated according to the dates on the newspapers which were used as interfacing for each hexagonal piece.
Because of the worn condition of the quilt, some of the little papers spilled out to reveal the printed dates of 1824 and 1836. The quilt may actually have been sewn prior to mid-19th century. 60% of its silk tie surface is in good solid condition. The other 40% of the piece-work is thread-bar or gone, and revealing newspaper facing and the cotton sheet which was also used as batting. There is a single shred of handmade lace remaining, which was the border. The backing is a faded pinkish cotton. A quilt historian could place a more exacting date upon this work.
Size: 55" x 62".
